Jason Finney is the Director of Global Credit at RJ O’Brien & Associates, one of the oldest and most respected independent futures brokerage firms in the United States. Based in Chicago, Mr. Finney has held this leadership role since joining the firm in 2018, where he oversees global credit exposure, counterparty risk, and the development of credit risk policies and procedures across the firm’s international operations.
As Director of Global Credit, Mr. Finney plays a critical role in shaping the firm’s risk posture by integrating advanced analytics and forward-looking credit assessments. He has been instrumental in leveraging artificial intelligence and data-driven tools to enhance traditional credit models—helping the firm detect emerging risks earlier and improve decision-making in volatile market conditions.
Before transitioning into financial services, Mr. Finney gained international experience as an intern at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), where he conducted economic research related to European markets and financial systems. This global perspective continues to influence his strategic approach to credit risk management today.
Mr. Finney holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and German from the University of Michigan. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois, where he served as a graduate finance tutor. In that role, he focused on mathematical modeling, financial statement analysis, and credit fundamentals, all of which now support his work leading RJ O’Brien’s global credit team. Jason Finney has earned a professional certification in Financial Risk Management (FRM), and uses those acquired skills to improve risk systems.
Outside the office, Jason Finney is an avid reader with a passion for the classics of literature and philosophy, believing that timeless ideas foster sharper judgment and deeper perspective. He is also an enthusiastic chess player, valuing the game’s parallels to risk management—anticipating moves, weighing trade-offs, and maintaining strategic positions.
